The City
Paris, the world’s most romantic city, is a hub for fashion, food, culture, and the arts. When winter and the holidays arrive, Paris’ streets are illuminated, revealing the city’s splendor. In the fall, the city returns to peace. A stroll along the Seine’s banks on a lovely day offers stunning views of the Seine’s bridges, huge historical structures reflected in the river’s waters, and traditional Parisian rooftops. With an expected 2,165,423 inhabitants in 2019 and a total area of more than 105 km, Paris is the capital and largest city of France and will rank as the 34th most densely inhabited city in the world in 2020. Two international airports, Paris-Charles de Gaulle (the second busiest airport in Europe) and Paris, serve Paris, a significant rail, highway, and air transportation center. The Paris Metro, which opened in 1900, is the second-busiest metro system in Europe behind the Moscow Metro, carrying 5.23 million passengers per day. With 262 million passengers in 2015, Gare du Nord ranked as the world’s 24th busiest railway station and the busiest station outside of Japan. Young Engineers or Future Leaders, the World Federation of Engineering Organizations, the OECD, the OECD Development Centre, the International Bureau of Weights and Measures, the International Energy Agency, the International Federation for Human Rights, the International Organization of La Francophonie, as well as European organizations like the European Space Agency are all located in Paris
